Trails are closed when conditions such as soil moisture could lead to trail damage.

North of Houston, Texas, near New Waverly use Interstate Highway 45 northbound exit #102 or #103 southbound at state highway FM-1375. Go West approx. 5 miles. Turn left at large Cagle Recreation Area sign.

    • From Houston, go north on I-45 about 40 miles to Exit 87, Conroe/ Highway 105. Turn left (west) on Highway 105 and go 13 miles to Montgomery. Go north on FM 149 14.3 miles to Forest Service Rd 219. Turn right, go .1 miles and trailhead parking lot is on right.

  • Off-road vehicles and horses not allowed on hiking trails.

National Forest Annual Multiple-Use Trail Pass
The annual pass is available at the Ranger’s Office.

East Side Trailhead (233): From I-45 follow FM 1375 west for 4 miles, turn north onto FS Road 233 and follow 2.5 miles.

West Side Trailhead (208): Follow FM 1375 west approximately 10 miles, turn north onto FS Road 208, continue 1.4 miles to trailhead.

Northwest Trailhead: From I-45 follow FM 1375 west approximately 14 miles, turn right onto FM 149 and follow approximately 1.5 miles, turn north onto FM 1791, and follow 4 miles to intersection with FS Road 208 to trailhead.

234 Equestrian Trailhead (No OHVs): From I-45 follow FM 1375 West for 3.5 miles, turn left onto FS Road 234. Trailhead is located on the left side of the road. (No vault toilet at this trailhead.)
